Course Overview:
This course provides students with an introduction to competitive shooting, including a presentation on the rules and required gear. Participants will complete several courses of fire in a competition-style format.
What You’ll Learn:
By the end of this course, students will have developed skills and knowledge in the following areas:
Firearm nomenclature and understanding of components
Proper gear setup for optimal performance
Safe and correct techniques for drawing from a holster
Refresher on handgun fundamentals
How to perform efficient handgun reloads
Footwork fundamentals for pivoting, moving, and shooting
Engaging multiple targets effectively
Finding the right balance between speed and accuracy
Stage maneuvering techniques
USPSA competition rules and shooting format
Required Gear:
A handgun/pcc of a manageable common caliber 9mm 40sw 45acp etc
Minimum of 250 rounds of ammunition
At least 2–5 magazines or speed loaders
Magazine carriers for belt use (highly recommended)
A sturdy belt — no canvas or flimsy belts
Safety glasses and hearing protection
A strong OWB (outside-the-waistband) holster
Additional Recommendations:
Dress appropriately for standing and moving at the range for extended periods
Bring sunscreen
Stay hydrated and energized with water and snacks
